Private meeting recording
by architecture.
Privacy claims are easy to write and hard to verify. MacParakeet is free and open-source, and its core speech workflow is built around local capture, local transcription, and user-controlled exports.

Privacy-first workflow
Do not upload the room just to get notes.
Meeting audio contains voices, names, strategy, client context, and raw thoughts. Local recording reduces the privacy surface before policies and promises even enter the conversation.
No hosted speech pipeline
Speech recognition happens on Apple Silicon through local models. There is no cloud STT service in the core meeting flow.
Local transcription details →No account required
MacParakeet does not require a hosted account, login, or team workspace to record a meeting.
No transcript lock-in
Export the artifact into standard formats instead of leaving it inside a vendor dashboard.
Clear AI boundary
If you choose to run transcript summaries through a cloud LLM, only transcript text goes to the provider you selected.
The private path
Reduce exposure at each step of the meeting workflow.
01
Capture locally
Record mic and system audio directly on macOS instead of inviting a third-party bot.
02
Transcribe locally
Run speech recognition on the Mac after the local model is available.
03
Share deliberately
Export or summarize only the artifacts you intentionally choose to move elsewhere.
Private recorder vs policy-based privacy
The strongest privacy guarantee is avoiding unnecessary data transfer.
| Question | MacParakeet | Common alternative |
|---|---|---|
| Audio handling | Audio stays on the Mac for core transcription | Audio commonly leaves the device |
| Verification | Source code can be inspected | Users rely on vendor policy |
| Account model | No login required | Account usually required |
| AI processing | Optional and user-selected | Often built into provider cloud |
| Best use | Sensitive personal or professional calls | Shared team note workflows |
Where privacy matters most
MacParakeet is strongest when local control is part of the job: sensitive calls, long interviews, recurring team meetings, and transcripts that need to stay portable.
Legal and compliance work
Case notes, privileged discussions, HR conversations, and regulated context deserve a local-first default.
Healthcare and therapy-adjacent notes
Sensitive conversations are a poor fit for casual SaaS upload defaults.
Personal voice notes
A voice journal or private brainstorm should not need a cloud transcription account.
Questions & answers
Is MacParakeet HIPAA compliant?
MacParakeet is a local-first app, not a hosted compliance service. You should evaluate it with your own policy requirements, but core audio transcription does not require uploading audio to MacParakeet servers.
Does telemetry include audio or transcripts?
No. MacParakeet telemetry is anonymous and opt-out, and does not include audio, transcript content, file names, personal information, persistent device IDs, or stored IP addresses.
Can I disable saving history?
MacParakeet includes privacy-focused controls, including private dictation behavior. Meeting and transcription artifacts are local files you control.
